Valletta had been missing the July Jazz tunes for the past years but luckily the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts have tought it well to restore the Malta Jazz Festival to its former glory at the breathtaking views of the Grand Harbour and its original venue; Ta’ Liesse between the 16th and 18th July. The festival will be artistically directed by Paris-based Maltese Jazz Guitarist/Composer Sandro Zerafa.
Artist and designer Jimmy Grima was asked to come up with a fresh theme for this year’s special comeback of the national Jazz Festival. After several attempts at creating the logo, he decided for a circular stamp-like version and with some research and inspiration from foreign jazz websites such as banlieuesbleues, jazzvienne and sonsdhiver, Jimmy decided to give life to some instruments drawn by himself, turn them into vividly coloured animated characters and have them accompanied by a modern, rounded type to star in the promotional printed campaign. A mix that in our opinion, worked out brilliantly design wise and served the purpose of projecting music as a rich, life-giving objective for our society.
Jimmy completed the works by also developing a flash website at www.maltajazzfestival.org.
