It was with great sadness that last Tuesday night, REDWHITEmt twitted about the passing away of ceramist Julie Apap, 62.
Apap has been potting for the past 20 years. She taught art in a secondary school, and then pottery in lunch time lessons. Her pottery studio (The Pot Studio) in Msida circus, used to host students for pottery classes. She took part in various collective exhibitions and also held a few personal ones. Last December, Apap participated in the Christmas edition of Patches.
REDWHITEmt would like to remember Julie Apap in her own words from a past interview:
“Yes I feel Maltese. I have been living here for 35 years now, I adopted Malta and Malta adopted me and even though my ways may still echo other cultures, I enjoy my life here.
I don’t think there is anything quite like pottery and the experience of immersing myself in my work, at the studio, quietly working away with no interruptions. Just me and my clay.”
