To some, Patches might seem like just another local crafts market. To those who have already been to the market in the past years, ceramic works, greeting cards, jewellery and food come to mind at first,. Although we have seen some graphic prints at Patches before, this year we will be seeing quite a different stall that will include the work of five local and london-based graphic artists and illustrators, namely Steven Scicluna, Ken Borg, Thomas Cuschieri and Sara de la Mora.
Work will vary from limited edition prints(including Risograph prints – a fairly new printing process) to art books, comics and other graphic related goodies. It is interesting to note that even with graphic works and illustration rising steadily in popularity both internationally and locally, in Malta particularly, it is still quite rare to find these works for sale, with most people still preferring to buy traditional works such as paintings and drawings.
For any local graphic arts or illustration enthusiast, and for anyone else who wants to skip traditional crafts for contemporary graphic works, this stall should definitely be worth a visit. The Patches Market is being held tomorrow 8 July, at the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta.
